DAJJAL (The Antichrist) There are numerous hadiths about the Dajjal, and extensive explanations about him. Here, we will focus on the most significant ones, as the Dajjal holds a critical place in Fiqh al-Tahawwulat (the Fiqh of Transitions). This is because the historical events and deviations that occur are deeply interconnected with the trials brought forth by this destructive figure. The Dajjal holds a significant position in Islam, both as a historical concept and as a figure of immense trial in the coming future. Who is Dajjal and what does he do?
Narrated by Imran ibn Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There is no greater trial (fitnah) from the time of Adam until the Hour than that of the Dajjal.” – Source: Sahih Muslim (Book 41, Hadith 7015)
Narrated by Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “He (Dajjal) will be a young man with curly hair and a protuberant eye; I liken him to ‘Abdul-‘Uzza bin Qatan. Both of his eyes are deficient—one of his eyes is wiped out and another is dangling like a grape. On his forehead, the word ‘K-F-R’ (disbeliever) is written, and only the believers will be able to see it, whether they are literate or illiterate.” – Source: Sahih Muslim (Book 41, Hadith 7010). Dajjal will come to remove the Justice that Imam Mahdi filled with the earth and will corrupt it once again with disbelief, oppression, famine (to the believers) and giving wealth to those who obey him.
Narrated Tamim al-Dari (may Allah be pleased with him): “We went on a sea voyage in a ship. There were thirty of us, from the tribe of Lakhm and Jutham. The sea carried us to an island in the evening, and we disembarked. We went on until we came across a beast that was so large and covered with hair that we couldn’t distinguish its front from its back. We said, ‘Woe to you! Who are you?’ It said, ‘I am Al-Jassasa.’ We asked, ‘What is Al-Jassasa?’ It said, ‘Go to that man in the monastery, for he is eager to see you.’ When we went to him, we found a man who was shackled and chained in the most horrible manner. We asked, ‘Woe to you! Who are you?’ He replied, ‘You will soon know who I am, but tell me who you are.’ We said, ‘We are a group of Arabs, we are from the people of the Arabian Peninsula. We were traveling when we were carried by the sea to this island, and we have been here for a month.’ The man asked, ‘Has the date-palm of Baysan (a town in Palestine) borne fruit?’ We replied, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘Soon its fruit will wither and dry up.’ He then asked, ‘Has the Lake of Tiberias (the Sea of Galilee) still got water in it?’ We said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘Soon it will dry up.’ He asked, ‘Has there appeared the unlettered Prophet, who has come from the Hijaz?’ We said, ‘Yes.’ He asked, ‘What did he do?’ We replied, ‘He has left Mecca and settled in Yathrib (Medina).’ He said, ‘Does he fight the Arabs?’ We said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘How did he deal with them?’ We said, ‘He fought them, and they fought him, but he has gained the upper hand and his followers have increased.’ He said, ‘I tell you that he is the Prophet of the unlettered people (the Prophet Muhammad), and soon his people will conquer this land. I am the Dajjal. When I am freed, I will come to you, and I will be given the power to cause destruction. I will travel around the world, and I will be seen by every person in every place.’” – Source: Sahih Muslim, Book 54, Hadith 7, Sunan Abu Dawood, Book 37, Hadith 4317 After this encounter, Tamim al-Dari returned to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and informed him of the events. The Prophet (peace be upon him) confirmed the details, and Tamim al-Dari eventually became a Muslim. The Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned that the encounter with Al-Jassasa and the Dajjal was a sign of the impending emergence of the Dajjal.
Narrated Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “The Dajjal will emerge from Khallah, between Sham (Syria) and Iraq, and will wreak havoc right and left. O slaves of Allah, remain steadfast.” When asked how long he would stay on earth, the Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, “Forty days: one day like a year, one day like a month, one day like a week, and the rest like regular days.” When asked if prayers for one day like a year would suffice, he advised, “Make an estimate of time and then observe prayer.” He further explained that the Dajjal would move like a rain cloud driven by the wind, and he would call some people, who would believe in him. He would then command the sky to rain, and the earth to produce vegetation, making their livestock healthier than ever. However, those who rejected him would face drought and deprivation. The Dajjal would also pass through wastelands, causing treasures to follow him like a swarm of bees. He would be accompanied by 70,000 Jews from Asfahan (Iran), wearing woollen cloaks. The Dajjal would not be able to enter Makkah or Madinah, and Madinah would shake three times to rid itself of hypocrites. – Source: Sahih Muslim, Book 54, Hadith 118, Sunan Abu Dawood, Book 37, Hadith 4319 Positions of dajjal: 1.The dajjal and his place in human history. 2 The place of dajjal in the history of the final message of Islam. 3.The importance of understanding the dajjal as ideology and as a person.
It was narrated that Abu Umamah Al-Bahili said: The prophet (peace be upon him) said: ‘There will not be any tribulation on earth, since the time Allah created the offspring of Adam, that will be greater than the tribulation of Dajjal. Allah has not sent any Prophet, but he warned his nation about Dajjal. I am the last of the Prophets, and you are the last of the nations. He will undoubtedly appear among you…’ – Source: Sunan Ibn Majah 4077
Narrated Abu Huraira: I have loved the people of the tribe of Bani Tamim ever since I heard, three things, Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said about them. I heard him saying,“These people (of the tribe of Bani Tamim) would stand firm against Ad-Dajjal.” – Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 2543 There are two phases related to Dajjal:
1.The fitna (trial) before his appearance (arrival) 2. His physical arrival in the world
These two phases impact the lives of nations and people differently. Every diversion from the path of religion from the time of Adam [AS] to the coming of Dajjal and until the end of time comes under the name of the fitna of Dajjal.
In the initial phase, Dajjal will orchestrate his deceitful politics from afar without him being physically present. This groundwork will pave the way for his eventual physical manifestation. His arrival will be at the end, overlapping with the conclusion of Imam Mahdi’s period and the beginning of Prophet Isa’s (peace be upon him) reign.
Various hadiths describe Dajjal’s arrival and his subsequent journey on Earth. They also highlight signs indicating the establishment of his state within the humanity.
Narrated ‘umran bin al-Hussayn: The prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The dajjal has eaten food and he has walked in their bazzars [market].” – Source: Al Ma’jab al-Kabeer, al-Tabbarani 1.The Fitna of Dajjal before his appearance The influence of the Dajjal began through political means, paving the way for a system that deviates towards corruption and distortion of the truth—known as the Dajjali way. The people who propagate this ideology are the ones who bring this corrupt system to life, ultimately leading to the destruction of true religious values in nations. The ideologies that shape human thought are, in essence, a manifestation of the Dajjal’s influence in the world. These ideologies are rooted in kufr, which is the very belief system of Shaytan. The Dajjal’s mission is to draw people toward these deviations, which inevitably lead them to disbelief (kufr). This is accomplished through the politicisation of both religious rulings and knowledge. the Dajjal’s influence manipulates religious rulings and knowledge, turning them into secular and politicised tools that serve his agenda, ultimately distorting the true essence of religion and leading people away from the truth. Allah has bestowed him with many abilities—in science, physical along with a long life, all of which are part of Allah’s divine wisdom that we cannot fully comprehend. The Dajjal has a belief and an ideology known as al-Dajjal, which aims to spread falsehood (baatil) disguised as truth—such as the Darwinian theory, for instance. He uses fear and terror to expand his influence, a tactic that can be observed in the media. The politics movement of the Jews are seen as part of a cultural movement, leading toward the rise of the Antichrist (Dajjal). There is strong tie between the dajjal and other dajjajila (Dajjali figures) who are the scholars in the religion and the world – playing a role in manufacturing and distorting religious teachings of sacred texts to serve the desires of Shaytan and the Dajjal in this world. The most important aspect is the Fiqh at-Tahawwulat (transitions) and its relationship with the politics of the Dajjal, which can be understood through the hadiths narrated regarding this issue. One of the key hadiths that highlight the dangers of this creature and its fitna is the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) repeated emphasis on seeking refuge in our prayers from the fitna of Maseeh al-Dajjal. This is a great sign from the prophet (peace be upon him) about the importance of seeking protection and acquiring knowledge about it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) stated that the Dajjal himself is not as dangerous as the real danger lies in how the Ummah will fall into his fitna through various means—such as education, seminars, culture, media, economics, and politics—which will facilitate and ensure the success of the Dajjal’s journey and agenda.
Shaddad ibn Aws reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, I do not fear for my nation anything but the Imams of misguidance. For when the sword is raised among my nation, it will not be removed from them until the Day of Resurrection.” – Source: Sahih Ibn Hibban 4570
Narrated Abu Umamah Al-Bahili: The prophet (peace be upon him) said: “There will not be any tribulation on earth, since the time Allah created the offspring of Adam, that will be greater than the tribulation of Dajjal.” – Source: Sunan Ibn Majah 4077
Narrated Ibn Umar: ‘Once Allah’s Apostle stood amongst the people, glorified and praised Allah as He deserved and then mentioned the Dajjal saying, “l warn you against him (i.e. the Dajjal) and there was no prophet but warned his nation against him. No doubt, Noah warned his nation against him but I tell you about him something of which no prophet told his nation before me. You should know that he is one-eyed, and Allah is not one-eyed.” – Source: Sahih Bukhari, Sunan Abu Dawood, Sunan at-Tirmidhi, Sunan Ahmad If you can safeguard yourself from his fitna, you will be able to protect yourself from him when he appears. This is why the Prophet (peace be upon him) instructed us to hold tightly to his way and the way of the Khulafa Rashideen (the Rightly Guided Caliphs), urging us to grip it tightly, as if biting onto it, and never let go. 2. His physical arrival in the world After the victory of Imam Mahdi against the Romans, Dajjal will emerge in vengeance and anger, accompanied by 70,000 Jews from Isfahan, as the hadith describes – 13,000 of them being women He will first call people to belief, urging them towards faith and piety—gradually gaining followers. His journey will take him to Kufa in Iraq, where he will claim to be a prophet. However, when people reject him, he will escalate his claim, declaring himself to be a god. The signs of his kufr will become evident, and he will openly announce his true identity. The economic situation will become extremely difficult, with hunger and poverty spreading among the people. As the hadith mentions,
Narrated Abu Hudhayfa The prophet (peace be upon him) said:169164 They asked: ‘Why is that O Messenger of Allah’. He replied: “Because of the immense illnesses and hardship they will endure.” – Source: Tabbarani Dajjal will remain on earth for 40 days. His arrival will coincide with a time when religion has weakened, with people no longer taking it seriously and knowledge becoming scarce. He will lead the Bedouins into fitna and perform deceptive miracles, such as bringing the dead back to life. He will make the clouds rain, causing the earth to release all its treasures to make people believe he is God. He will also speed up time, rapidly moving from one place to another.
Narrated by Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Dajjal will approach a Bedouin and ask him, ‘Will you believe in me if I bring your mother and father back to life?’ The Bedouin, astonished and eager, will respond, ‘Yes, I will.’ Then, Dajjal will perform his deceptive act by turning two devils (shayatin) into the Bedouin’s parents. When the Bedouin sees them, he will believe that they are truly his parents, and in his disbelief, he will accept the Dajjal as his lord.” – Source: Sahih Muslim, Book 54, Hadith 118, Sunan Abu Dawood, Book 37, Hadith 4319
Narrated Nawwas ibn Sam’an (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)said: “The Dajjal will meet a young boy and ask him, ‘Do you believe that I am your Lord?’ The boy will reply, ‘No, you are the Dajjal.’ Then the Dajjal will order that the boy be cut in half, and after the boy is split into two, the Dajjal will walk between the two halves. Then he will command the boy to stand up, and the boy will be resurrected. The Dajjal will ask, ‘Do you believe in me now?’ The boy will reply, ‘I am more certain now that you are the Dajjal.’” – Source: Sahih Muslim, Book 54, Hadith 118 Dajjal will defeat the Iranians, then pass Iraq and then to the Arabian Peninsula. He will reach the boundaries of Makkah and Madinah (He is unable to enter these two holy cities). He will go to the Levant (Sham), where Imam Mahdi’s army are under siege on the Mountain of Smoke near Bayt al-Maqdis. Dajjal and his army will strengthen the siege, bringing even greater hardship to the Muslims. He will surround Bayt al-Maqdis with his army and cut off the Palestinian land from Bayt al-Maqdis, preventing the other Muslims from reaching it to aid the Mahdi.
The siege will continue, and prophet Isa (AS), the son of Maryam, will descend near the white minaret in the east of Damascus. From there, he will make his way towards Bayt al-Maqdis to support Imam Mahdi on the mountain, where they are under siege. Isa (AS) will join the Muslims in praying the fajr prayer behind Imam Mahdi, as a Ma’mum (follower in prayer). Prophet Isa (AS) will call the Muslims to fight in jihad fi sabilillah (struggle in the path of Allah), and their battle cry will be “Iftah!” meaning “Open!” Dajjal will then flee to the depths of Palestine, with prophet Isa (AS) pursuing him to Bab al-Lut, where he will kill him. With Dajjal’s defeat, Allah will bring victory over the Jews.
Thawban narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “I only fear for my Ummah from the misguiding A’immah.” He said that the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) said: “There will never cease to be a group from my Ummah manifest upon the truth, they will not be harmed by those who forsake them until Allah’s Decree comes.” – Source: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2229
Abu Umaamah Al-Baahili narrated: “…while their Imaam will have advanced to pray the Fajr prayer with them, Isa, the son of Mary will descend [at the time of the Fajr prayer]. The Imaam will draw backward so that ‘Isa (AS) would go forward and lead the people in prayer. However, ‘Isa (AS) would put his hand between his shoulders and say to him: “Go forward and pray, as it is for you that the call for the prayer was called, so their Imaam would lead them in prayer.” – Source: Ibn Maajah
Narrated Nawwas ibn Sam’an Al-Kilabi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) mentioned Dajjal one morning as something despised but also alarming, until we thought that he was in the stand of date-palm trees. When we came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in the evening, he saw that fear in us and said, “What is the matter with you?” We said, “O Messenger of Allah, you mentioned Dajjal this morning, and you spoke of him as something despised but also alarming, until we thought that he was in the stand of date-palm trees.” He replied, “There are things that I fear more for you than the Dajjal. If he appears while I am among you, I will contend with him on your behalf, and if he appears when I am not among you, then each man must fend for himself, and Allah will take care of every Muslim on my behalf.” – Source: Sahih Muslim, Book 1, Hadith 329, Sunan Abu Dawood, Book 37, Hadith 4319
Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him):The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: “A believer will go to the Dajjal, thinking he is strong, but he will be overcome by the fitnah and end up following the Dajjal.” – Source: Sahih Muslim, Book 54, Hadith 118
Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him):The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: “There will come a time when men will have to tie their women to keep them from going to the Dajjal because he will have so much worldly attraction (fitnah).” – Source: Sahih Muslim, Book 54, Hadith 118 This is one of the many tests and trials that will occur during the time of the Dajjal, as he deceives and misleads people with his false miracles and manipulations.
Narrated Umaamah (May Allah be pleased with him): The prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever amongst you meets him (the Dajjaal), let him spit in his face and recite the first verses of Soorah Al-Kahf.” – Source: Al-Haakim (al-Mustadrak), at-Tabaraani (al-Mu’jam al-Kabeer) and Ath-Thahabi
Abu Dardaa’ (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever memorises the first ten verses of Soorah Al-Kahf will be protected (by Allaah) from the Dajjaal.” – Source: Muslim Dajjal will appear with a river in one hand and fire in the other. Those who reject him will be cast into what appears to be fire, and those who follow him will be led to what seems like a river—though in reality, the truth is the opposite.
Narrated Hudhaifa: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said ‘Ad-Dajjal would have water and fire with him: (what would seem to be) fire, would be cold water and (what would seem to be) water, would be fire.’ – Source: Bukhari Most of those who will follow Dajjal are unbelievers, hypocrites, immoral individuals, some Bedouins, women, and Jews. Dajjal will draw people towards him by tempting them with the allure of worldly pleasures, encouraging them to indulge in haram (forbidden) actions, and leading them to follow their desires.
Narrated Anas ibn Maalik that the prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The Dajjaal will be followed by seventy thousand Jews of Isfahan dressed in Tayaalisah (sing. Taylasaan; a Persian mantle or shawl).” – Source: Muslim
Ibn ‘Umar narrated: The prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The Dajjaal will come to this barren place in Marriqanaah (a valley on the outskirts of Madeenah), and most of those who would come out to him would be women, so much so that a man would go back to his wife, mother, daughter, sister, and paternal aunt to tie them up tight, fearing that they might go out to him…” – Source: Musnad Ahmad 5353 The above hadith does not mean the majority of the people on earth, rather the majority of people in some of the places he will go to. Prophet Isa (‘Alayhi Salaam) The descent of Isa (Peace be upon him) is one of the most significant signs of the Hour. Studying his return is essential in understanding the Shari’ah, particularly within the context of the fourth pillar of religion—the Signs of the Hour. “He was not but a servant upon whom We bestowed favor, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel.” – Qur’an: Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:59
“And if We willed, We could have made [instead] of you angels succeeding [one another] on the earth.” – Qur’an: Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:60
“And indeed, he [i.e., Jesus] will be [a sign for] knowledge of the Hour, so be not in doubt of it, and follow Me. This is a straight path.” – Qur’an: Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:61 Due to the importance of this subject, Allah addressed it in the Qur’an to refute the falsehoods propagated by the Jews regarding the killing and crucifixion of Isa (AS).
“And [for] their saying, ‘Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah.’ And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.”
“Rather, Allah raised him to Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.”
“Every one of the People of the Book will definitely believe in him before his death. And on the Day of Judgment Jesus will be a witness against them.” – Qur’an: Surah Nisa 4: 157 – 169
Narrated by Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, surely (Jesus,) the son of Mary will soon descend amongst you and will judge mankind justly (as a Just Ruler); he will break the Cross and kill the pigs and there will be no Jizya (i.e., taxation taken from non-Muslims). Money will be in abundance so that nobody will accept it, and a single prostration to Allah (in prayer) will be better than the whole world and whatever is in it.” Abu Huraira added: “If you wish, you can recite (this verse of the Holy Book): ‘And there is none of the people of the Scriptures (Jews and Christians) but must believe in him (i.e., Jesus as an Apostle of Allah and a human being) before his death. And on the Day of Judgment, he will be a witness against them.’” – Qur’an: Surah Nisa 4 159 – Source: Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 3448 This shows the importance of rejecting the old political systems that the Jews, Christians, the Dajjal, as well as their followers once followed. With the arrival and leadership of prophet Isa (AS), there will be no more provocative politics intended to stir up conflict, division, or unrest among people (Tahreej). This is a tactic used by the jews, Christians, and the dajajala (the followers and supporters of Dajjal) to incite division, create conflict, and plunder the wealth of nations. These divisive and exploitative strategies is the principles of Shaytan. It is based on divide and conquer. The coming of Isa (AS) will bring an end to these social and economic issues, and the remaining Jews and Christians will embrace Islam.
“And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in him before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection, he will be against them a witness.” – Qur’an: Surah Nisa 4 159
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “The Hour will not be established until the son of Mary (i.e. Jesus) descends amongst you as a just ruler, he will break the cross, kill the pigs, and abolish the Jizya tax. Money will be in abundance so that nobody will accept it (as charitable gifts).” – Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 2476 This means that people will no longer need weapons (swords), as there will be no need for battle in a society governed by justice. Allah will eliminate harmful elements, even removing poison from animals.
Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “…Then peace and security will prevail on earth, so that lions will graze with camels, tigers with cattle, and wolves with sheep; children will be able to play with snakes without coming to any harm. Jesus will remain for forty years, then die, and the Muslims will pray for him.” – Source: Ahmad
Abu Hurairah said, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “…A child will play with a fox and not come to any harm; a wolf will graze with sheep and a lion with cattle, without harming them.” – Source: Ahmad He will govern the world according to Sharia, kill the pigs, break the cross, and the Christians will embrace Islam. People will stop giving sadaqah (charity) because there will be no one in need to accept it. Treasures will surface, but no one will desire them, as wealth will be abundant, and the Hour will be near.
The price of horses will decrease, while the price of bulls/oxen will rise, as the land will need to be cultivated. There will be no wars, and therefore no demand for horses. The entire world will experience peace and an abundance of goodness. Agriculture will flourish without conflict or division for as long as Isa (Aleyhi Salam) lives.
During his time, Isa (Aleyhi Salam) will go to the two holy mosques (Al-Haramein), settle there, and eventually pass away in Madinah. His grave will be beside that of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Abdallah b. `Amr reported God’s messenger as saying, “Jesus, son of Mary will descend to the earth, will marry, have children, and remain forty-five years, after which he will die and be buried along with me in my grave. Then Jesus, son of Mary and I shall arise from one grave between Abu Bakr and ‘Umar.” – Source: Mishkat al-Musabih 5508
The prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever follows my book and manages to apprehend the time of prophet esa and the time of imam mehdi, let him send my salam and ask them for dua and istighfar.” – Source: al-Hakim Years after the death of Prophet Isa (AS), people will gradually return to the ways of Jahiliyya (the state of ignorance, moral decline, and polytheism that existed before Islam). This period will be marked by a deterioration of faith, and people will slowly revert to sinful practices. A cool breeze will come from Sham that will take the lives of all the believers, leaving behind only those who are corrupt and devoid of faith. As a result, there will be no one left on earth who has even an atom of Iman (faith). Only the most wicked and immoral people will remain.
Between the death of Prophet Isa (AS) and the rising of the sun from the west, the following events occur: · A man from Quraysh named Muq’ad will initially take over leadership. · After him, another man from Quraysh will rise to power, but unlike Muq’ad, he will not have a the same reputation. · Following this, a man named Al-Maqzoumi will oppose him, possibly someone referred to as “Al-Jahjaa” by the Prophet (peace be upon him). This figure will create division and discord. · Then, Al-Qahqani, who is aligned with the path of Al-Mahdi and known by the title “Al-Mansour,” will emerge to confront him. He will rule for 21 years, after which the world will begin to deteriorate. Following his reign, evil will gradually spread, and corruption will increase until the sun rises from the west, signalling the approach of the Hour.
Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin Al-‘As (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “…Then Allah will send a cool breeze from the side of Ash-Sham. None will remain upon the face of the earth having the smallest particle of good or Faith in him but he will die, so much so that even if someone amongst you will enter the innermost part of a mountain, this breeze will reach that place also and will cause him to die. Only the wicked people will survive and they will be as fast as birds (i.e., to commit evil) and as ferocious towards one another as wild beasts. They will never appreciate the good, nor condemn evil. Then Shaitan (Satan) will come to them in the garb of a man and will say: ‘Will you not obey me?’ They will say: ‘What do you order us to do?’ He will command them to worship idols. They will have abundance of sustenance and will lead comfortable lives. Then the Trumpet will be blown…” – Source: Muslim, Riyad as-Salihin 1810
ʿAbdullah ibn ʿAmr narrated that the Prophet said: “…Then Allah will send a cold wind from the direction of Shām (the Levant), and there will not remain on the face of the earth any person who had in his heart a speck of goodness or of Imān, except that death will come to him, such that if one of you was to enter the inner depths of a mountain, the cold wind would reach him and bring him death. There will remain only the most wicked of people who will be as careless as a bird, and they will have the behaviour of beasts. They will not enjoin what is good, and they will not forbid evil. Then Shaytān will appear to them in the form of a human being, and he will say to them, ‘Will you not respond to me?’ So, these evil people will say, ‘What do you command us with?’ So, he will command them to worship idols. They will have abundant provision and comfortable lives, then the Trumpet will be blown [for the Hour] …” – Source:Saheeh Muslim. After the cool breeze from Sham takes the souls of the believers, leaving behind only the wicked, Shaytan will manifest before them and ask, “Are you not ashamed?” They will reply, “What do you command us?” Shaytan will then instruct them to worship idols, and they will obey. They will continue living in this way until the sound of the trumpet is heard.
Nawwas bin Sam’an al-Kilabi said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Allah will send ‘Eisa bin Maryam, who will come down at the white minaret in the east of Damascus, wearing two Mahrud [garment dyed with Saffron], resting his hands on the wings of two angels as imam Mahdi and the believers are preparing to pray in beytul maqdis. Prophet Isa A.S will come down in Sham (Syria) with the angels carrying him When he lowers his head, beads of perspiration will fall from it. Every disbeliever who smells the fragrance of his breath will die, and his breath will reach as far as his eye can see. Then he will set out and catch up with him (the Dajjal) at the gate of Ludd, and will kill him. Then the Prophet of Allah Isa will come to some people whom Allah has protected, and he will wipe their faces and tell them of their status in Paradise. While they are like that, Allah will reveal to him: “O ‘Isa, I have brought forth some of My slaves whom no one will be able to kill, so take My slaves to Tur in safety.” Then Gog and Magog will emerge and they will, as Allah describes, “swoop down from every mound.”[21:96] The first of them will pass by lake Tiberias and drink from it, then the last of them will pass by it and will say: “There was water here once.” The Prophet of Allah, ‘Isa and his companions will be besieged there until the head of an ox would be dearer to any one of them than one hundred Dinar are to any one of you today. Then, the Prophet of Allah, ‘Eisa and his companions will supplicate to Allah. Then Allah will send a worm in their necks and the next morning they will all be dead. The Prophet of Allah ‘Isa and his companions will come down and they will not find even the space of a hand span that is free of their stink, stench and blood. They will pray to Allah, and Allah will send birds with necks like the necks of Bactrian camels, which will pick them up and throw them wherever Allah wills. Then Allah will send rain which will not leave any house of clay or hair, and it will wash the earth until it leaves it like a mirror (or a smooth rock). Then it will be said to the earth: “Bring forth your fruits and bring back your blessing.” On that day a group of people will eat from a (single) pomegranate, and it will suffice them, and they will seek shelter beneath its skin. Allah will bless a milch- camel so that it will be sufficient for a large number of people, and a milch-cow will be sufficient for a whole tribe and a milch-ewe will be sufficient for a whole clan. While they are like that, Allah will send a pleasant wind which will seize them beneath their armpits and will take the soul of every Muslim, leaving the rest of the people fornicating like donkeys, and upon them will come the Hour.’” – Source: Sunan Ibn Majah 4075
