Comparison of the Four Sunni Madhhabs on Reciting the Qur’an During Menstruation (Hayd)
This document summarises the relied-upon (muʿtamad) positions of the four Sunni schools regarding whether a menstruating woman may recite the Qur’an.
Points of Agreement Among All Four Schools:
- Menstruating women do not pray (salah).
- They do not fast during menstruation.
- They may engage in dhikr, du‘a, salawat, and remembrance of Allah.
- Touching the physical mushaf requires purification, with minor technical differences between schools.
Note: This document presents the mainstream relied-upon positions within each madhhab as found in their authoritative classical manuals.
